BungoBox Earns 9News Hot Product Zone Award

Out of 650 exhibitors,  BungoBox was selected as one of nine companies to earn the merit of 2013 Hot Product by 9News at the Colorado Home and Garden Show February 15 -23, 2013.

As the first plastic moving box Rental Company in the greater Denver market, BungoBox earned the distinction by providing an innovative option to using traditional cardboard moving boxes for residential relocations.

The BungoBox Denver team demonstrated to over 60,000 Home Show attendees that renting BungoBoxes makes moving easier, less expensive, and eco-friendly compared to purchasing cardboard boxes.

The award provided for a special display area at the Show Entrance along with in-booth designation and website and program designation.  The highlight was attending a 9News live taping of featured hot products with Channel 9 Anchor Mark Koebrich.  The segment aired on both the 5 pm and 9 pm broadcast and can be seen again here: http://www.9news.com/video/default.aspx?bctid=2147304147001

Meet YEC’s Tom Cannon of BungoBox on #StartupLab

Published on businessinsider.com

Moving: we’ve all done it, piling Sharpie-labeled cardboard box on top of Sharpie-labeled cardboard box, going through roll after roll of packaging tape. We get to our new place only to see that half of our “nice” dinner dishes are smashed to bits, along with that glass figurine thingy Grandma gave us years ago.

Uggh.

Thing is, we paid for those boxes that did nothing to protect our stuff. And (let’s be real) most of them ended up in the trash.

Tom Cannon, co-founder and CEO of BungoBox (and this week’s live chat host) is on a mission to make moving suck less by replacing the most annoying piece of the moving puzzle: those collapsible, environmentally unfriendly boxes. (Half end up in the trash, not the recycling bin.)

He came across this genius idea during his tenure in the Navy, when he noticed that large distribution centers almost never used cardboard, but industrial strength, uncrushable plastic. At the same time, he was helping a friend move — and realized cardboard was the only option out there.

BungoBox, a moving box rental company with a sense of humor, was founded as a cost-effective alternative to the cardboard conundrum. Their industrial strength boxes get dropped off and picked up for a tiny rental fee (cheaper than buying those brown boxes) and reused up to 400 times before being recycled. They also come with custom fitted dollies for easy moving (bye, strained back!).
To boot, they’ll protect your stuff a lot better, have removable labels AND help the environment (one BungoBox alone, says Tom, saves 1,575 gallons of water, four large trees, 923 KW hours of energy and 40 gallons of gas).

Win-win-win, right?

Today BungoBox has 20 locations in the U.S. and Canada, and as a result of Tom and his team’s incredible work, the company has received multiple accolades — Oustanding Small Business 2012 (Orlando Business Journal), the 2010 “B.I.G.” Award for innovation and growth (Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce) and many more.

This Thursday, February 14th at 3 PM EST, join Tom for an hour-long #StartupLab live chat, presented by Citi. As the founder of three successful companies with years of experience in executive positions, Tom is a great mentor to quiz on everything from small biz branding to staying cash-flow positive to franchising your small business.

BungoBox partners with Elite Moving Labor

We are very excited about our partnership with Elite Moving Labor. Just like BungoBox, they work to make your move as easy as possible. Who doesn’t like that?

Elite Moving Labor provides professional movers for residential and businesses that have secured their own transportation method. Their customers typically rent their own truck or portable storage container and use Elite’s team of movers to load, unload or pack it.

How The Moving Labor Process Works

There is a lot of confusion when it comes to moving labor and what the service entails. The simplest way to think of moving labor is movers without the truck. Yes, we know this sounds strange to many of you and it's why we cover the topic so extensively. Simply put, moving labor fills the physical and skilled requirements for anyone who plans to move themselves. "Moving yourself", also referred to as "self moving" and "DIY moving", is when you decide to rent a truck, PODS container or freight trailer for your move. These options provide the transportation to move your items but not the actual movers to load, unload or pack - hence the term moving labor.

Step 1: Rent The Truck

Truck rentals, PODS, trailers and containers are all viable, affordable and abundant options for self moving, usually much cheaper than a traditional van line. Which method you choose should be based on your relocation situation and budget. We've provided an in depth overview regarding these methods and how to choose one for both local moves and long distance moves.

Step 2: Hire Moving Labor

The coolest feature about moving labor is the flexibility. Unlike a traditional van line, we can help with as much or as little as you would like. Hire our movers to load the truckunload the truck or simply to pack boxes. Even if you hire us just to load your moving truck you can still limit our time on site to heavy furniture only or whatever specific need you have. With moving labor you can be as hands on, or off, as you would like to be with your move.

Step 3: Save Money!

The benefit of self moving is in the savings. Full service moves are expensive, really expensive. By combining a self move transportation method (step 1) along with moving labor (step 2) you can save an average of 40-60% when compared to a full service company.

After all of that, how could you not give back?”

Along with his participation in maintaining the Pegasus alumni magazine, he also has helped design programs, distribution materials and the original online Web portal for the UCF Alumni Association.

Other clients include Eola Wine Co.; The Vue; Burke, Hogue & Mills; Everything But Water; the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission; Hughes Supply; and House of Blues.

BungoBox launches its 11th franchise location

Orlando, Fla. (Oct. 3, 2011) - BungoBox, a plastic moving-box rental company, has awarded a new BungoBox franchise in Charlotte, N.C., which will provide service to Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Union and Caston counties.

BungoBox rents the reusable plastic bins to save consumers time and money over traditional moving methods. The concept is simple: A BungoBox truck delivers the stackable moving boxes (a large box of about 2.5 cubic feet rents for $1.75 a week) to a customer’s doorstep. Once they’ve been unpacked, BungoBox picks them up at the new residence.

Jim Amendum, Charlotte BungoBox franchisee, is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and worked as an educator prior to joining the BungoBox team.

“BungoBox fills a void in the moving industry,” Amendum says. “Our bins provide a moving alternative to cardboard that is sturdier, easier to use and cheaper.” With plans to open its doors in December 2011, Amendum says his focus is on great customer service.

Co-founders Tom and Bob Cannon, who run the BungoBox headquarters in Orlando, launched the franchise option in late 2010 and have awarded franchises in Florida in Gainesville, Jacksonville, South Florida, Tallahassee, Tampa, and in Atlanta, Ga; Phoenix, Ariz., Halifax, Nova Scotia and Edmonton, Alberta.

About BungoBox:

Based in Orlando, Fla., BungoBox is an innovative company that is transforming the traditional moving process. Committed to helping consumers save time and money with an eco-friendly alternative to cardboard boxes, BungoBox has 11 locations (ten franchise locations and one corporate location). Moving Guru - Cures "tequila hangover" of new home ownership.

I realize that the iPad contest has long since passed and I am about as far from Canada as one can get in this country without getting their feet wet, however I wanted to ‘put it out there’ just how fine an experience I recently had with the local BungoBox group here in Orlando…

It had been 10 years since I last moved and that experience was enough to put off the prospect of a repeat performance for several decades … expensive, false promises, delivery delayed for more than a week, crushed cardboard boxes, etc … just an all around bad experience … call it ‘the tequila hangover of new home ownership’, if you will.

In almost all aspects, I did not want the same experience this go around.  I heard about BungoBox, the concept made sense, so I called them up.  I found professionalism and helpful advice from the get go.  Ward became my ‘moving guru’ … we discussed my needs, my timetable (it was a bit unusual) and my budget.  It was effortless; although I was not able to convince him that he should drop by to pack all my stuff … I was going for Sherpa, but guru worked out just fine.

Even when my timetable for my move-in changed, the Orlando BungoBox team was at the top of their game and worked with me, leaving the stress behind.  If anyone deserves a new iPad for a job well done, my vote goes to Ward and the Orlando BungoBox folks.

 Kudos,

 ROYAL  R.

BungoBox Canada opens its doors in Halifax

Our first franchise in Canada is now officially open; and there's plenty more where that came from.  The plan is to open 20 to 40 franchise locations across Canada over the next two years in places like Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto and parts of Quebec.

With that said, we think this calls for a celebration; and by that we mean a contest. We are giving away an iPad2 to the person who submits the worst moving story. For details about the contest, visit the BungoBox Canada Facebook page. Story submissions can be sent to bungoboxcanada@gmail.com. Contest ends Aug. 25. For more information about BungoBox Canada, located at 200 Bluewater Road, Unit 1, Bedford, NS, visit the company’s recently launched website at bungobox.ca. Or call 855-BUNGOBX.

Retired? Move in Style!

RETIRED

Usually focused on a location that is quiet and peaceful, with nice scenery, and a low crime rate. Their main concerns are:

WEATHER :

Individuals getting ready to retire, especially those who have lived in cold places their whole lives, are usually ready to put their snow shovels away for good. Weather is one of the top reasons that the elderly are likely to choose one destination over the other. By doing a little bit of research, you can easily find out the trending weather data on any location for the past few years. It is almost always safest to pick somewhere located near water

TRAFFIC :

We often think of retirement as the serene, peaceful time of life. Therefore, on your search for a new home, try to avoid cities that have become overcrowded. Because you have the leisure of not needing to be located close to a metropolis for work, you can pick somewhere with more isolation or just with less people in general. No one wants to be stuck in rush hour on a casual trip to the grocery store.

CAMARADERIE :

It is important to find fellowship with other retirees in your new destination. Find out what types of activities are offered around your prospective destinations based on your interests. Perhaps, you want to pick somewhere that offers a wide selection of crafting, painting or other art related classes and clubs. Maybe, you have always been into ball room dancing; look to see if they are any open studios in the area.

What a recent customer had to say….

Thank you again for everything!

I packed everything in less than 2 hours, drove to the new house, unpacked and stacked the boxes next to the door for pick-up as I went. I didn’t have the hassle of having to use tape or cardboard getting wet, no issues at all. Trust me I have already bragged about how much it is worth it to use BungoBoxes for a move, especially when you unpack as quickly as I do. Everything I needed to keep packed, I just used the couple of plastic bins I already had.

BungoBox awards first franchise

Orlando, Fla. – (Feb. 28, 2011) – BungoBox, an Orlando-based company which rents reusable plastic boxes to save consumers time and money over traditional moving methods, has opened its first franchise location, which will serve Pasco, Pinellas, Hillsborough and Hernando counties.

BungoBox launched the franchise option in late 2010, and co-founders Tom and Bob Cannon were overwhelmed when they received more than 100 franchise applications. The Orlando-based company plans to award two more franchises in the next few months.

“We designed our concept from the very beginning with franchising in mind,” says Tom. “Every aspect was carefully implemented to ensure maximum efficiencies and profitability for our franchisees.”

BungoBox franchisees Greg and Jennifer Steinig had previous careers as a therapeutic sales representative for a large pharmaceutical company and as an ultrasound technologist respectively. The husband and wife team have purchased two territories in the greater Tampa market. Those territories include exclusive rights to Pasco, Pinellas, Hillsborough and Hernando counties, an area made up of more than 2 million residents.

“We are excited about serving the greater Tampa Bay area with a family-owned business that makes people’s lives easier, keeps more money in their pocket and is good for the environment,” Greg says. “By investing in this business, we are investing in our community and keeping unnecessary waste out of our landfills. At the end of the day, that is extremely rewarding.”

The Tampa franchise will begin operations in April 2011.

“Part of our plan includes expanding operations by opening 20 to 50 franchise locations in the next three to five years as part of a steady and strategic growth strategy,” says Cannon.

Cardboard Shuffle - Great Efforts Showcase Severity of Problem

This is an awesome video showcasing the problem associated with cardboard moving boxes.

I applaud the efforts of the students, staff and volunteers. I can also appreciate all the hard work that goes into diverting cardboard waste from landfills. However, we all now that the majority of moving boxes never get recycled. And although recycling is better than waste, it is certainly not better than reuse. BungoBox solves all of the problems outlined in this video, with much less effort, much less waste and much less expense. BungoBox does make moving less sucky.
